AGA Files Appeals on Specific Provisions in the Proposed 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

On Tuesday, AGA filed timely appeals (attached)  on specific provisions in the proposed 2024 IECC.  The AGA appeals are on provisions that require or promote “electric ready” provisions, all-electric homes, and buildings, require, or promote electric vehicle power transfer infrastructure, or penalize the installation of natural gas applications with increased requirements that are not economically justified. The AGA appeal outlines in detail, the precise problems in the development process and the provisions that are included outside the Scope of the IECC or included without an appropriate or justified cost benefit analysis to validate their inclusion into the code. We appreciate the input provided by BECS committee utility members on the AGA appeal. We do expect that the ICC will now establish hearings on all appeals filed with the ICC Appeal Panel. We expect all appeals to be published and that the appeals hearings will be open to the public.  We will provide additional details on the appeals process expected shortly.

AGA, the American Public Gas Association (APGA) and the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) File Joint Comments on Improvements to the IECC Standards Development Process.

Back on December 1, we reported that the ICC was inviting public comments on how to improve the IECC standards development process. Attached, are the joint comments filed with the ICC on December 30. 2023 by AGA, APGA and the NPGA in response to the ICC’s request for public comments. The joint comments contain substantial recommendations that if adopted, would result in major improvements in the process for future editions of the IECC and should avoid the concerns with the development process that the ICC used during the development of the proposed 2024 IECC. We will provide the ICC response to the joint recommendations when available.
